The first room had a key card that wouldn’t work, and after a long walk from the third floor back to the desk, I got it fixed. Then I found the bathroom flooded. In the next room, the card failed again, and I had to trek back down. The old elevator had a strange smell, too. The next room had a bathroom heater light falling out of the ceiling, a questionable tub, and dead bedbugs on the bed and in the bathroom. The clerk moved us to another floor and room, but was getting short with me after all the trips back and said there was only one room left. I could take it or ask about canceling, though she couldn’t say whether I’d get a refund. It was late, so I asked for the room. It had no AC, and with the pool right outside the door it was hot and humid, with peeling, cracked paint. We had to ask for a fan and slept in what felt like a sauna. The breakfast was fair, and the pool looked dirty, so I didn’t use it. I don’t know where the remodel mentioned in reviews happened. Outside, the hotel looked dated and a bit like a creepy movie, but inside the lobby it was surprisingly nice and close to everything, with a restaurant accessible from the hotel. Most of the staff I dealt with were helpful, while a few seemed not to care. I spoke with all three desk clerks and asked when the manager would be available so these problems could be addressed. I never got a time or heard from management, so I reported it to Expedia, Booking, and corporate. The place has potential, but they need to invest time and money in fixing it up.

The staff were wonderful, especially the woman who handled breakfast. Our first room was nice, but after a couple of nights we had to move because it was already booked. The replacement had no AC. Staff tried to help us find another room, but every one we checked was even hotter than the first, so we stuck it out. There was also a leak beside the bed, and the heat made the room feel very humid. The hotel needs major repairs and upgrades, especially at these prices. With some investment from the owners, it could easily be five stars.

The front desk staff were the highlight. They were quick and willing to help, and I didn’t have a terrible stay, but I was let down by how many services weren’t working. The hotel is in a nice part of town, but the rooms and rest of the building seem neglected and outdated. Our room was clean but old. The pool was in good condition, and the hot tub was hot, though its jets didn’t work. The kitchen was being renovated, so breakfast was limited to oatmeal and coffee; I hope the price reflected the lack of a proper breakfast. The sauna, gym, and laundry were all out of service.

There were two doors in our room, and the locks were broken. We wedged an ironing board against the wall under the doorknob, and covered the peepholes with tape because people could see into the room. The bathroom was dirty, too. The woman at the desk wouldn’t give me a receipt. It’s apparently called Red Lion or something now, and the pool is being demolished, despite what the website said. My daughter and I travel all over, and this was honestly the worst hotel ever.

Review from September 2023. I’m writing because I rely on reviews when I book, and I was very disappointed. I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it. The employee who checked us in was curt and rude, and I saw him treat other customers the same way. The building smelled of cigarettes, the pool water didn’t look clean, and there was no hot water at all. Our room felt dirty, with things left on the floor that hadn’t been vacuumed, and there was no breakfast. We stayed because we had a pet, but next time I’d rather pay twice as much for the other dog-friendly hotel in town. Someone I know stayed here a year earlier and described a very different place, with a full breakfast, a decent room, and a full parking lot. This time there were only a couple of other guests and hardly any cars. I don’t know if ownership changed, but this was far from what I expected. The outside connecting door in our room wouldn’t close fully, and its latch was held by just one screw instead of four. I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but wanted to let other travelers know.
