Sleep Inn Grand Island North

Around 3:25 am, someone tried twice to get into our room. The door was locked from the inside, so we knew they were trying a key. If we hadn’t put up the second metal “lock” they gave us, they might have gotten in. I wouldn’t recommend this place for two women traveling.

The employees are why I still gave this place five stars. Austin was kind, knowledgeable, and informative, and I enjoyed talking with him before booking and during our stay. I also saw LuLu working hard at breakfast, along with someone clearing dog waste and leaves from the yard during our one night there. For the price, it was a good deal and the staff were great. The pool was very cold for young kids. My daughter insisted on going in, so I joined her, but it was unpleasant. I’d have gladly paid more for a pool you could actually swim in. The owner should consider bringing back the hot tub and heating the pool to a temperature kids would enjoy.

We keep coming back to Sleep Inn Grand Island North because it’s affordable, lets us bring our dog, and has free WiFi, a king bed, a wonderful shower, and good breakfast. We’ll continue staying here, though it is a three star hotel and you get what you pay for. The bed had clean sheets and was very comfortable and large, but could use bigger pillows. The shower had great pressure and endless hot water, though on the second night smoke filled our room, even the shower. Someone was smoking meat right outside our room, and the whole room was smoked out. We like the little dog park, and understand why dog owners are grouped in a small set of rooms at the hotel’s end, where they can exit nearby. But our dog gets anxious around other dogs, and being so close to them made her restless and sleepless the first night. By night two she’d adjusted. The hallway smelled strongly of marijuana throughout our stay, despite signs saying the hotel was 100% nonsmoking. The room was musty, perhaps from recent flooding, though we’ve noticed that before. People sat outside in trucks the whole time, which made my girlfriend uncomfortable and unsettled me too. The front desk staff never greeted us, but responded when we said hello. The hot tub was out of order on an earlier visit, and the pool was hard to get into. My girlfriend has a steel rod from her shoulder to her elbow and couldn’t get in. At breakfast, the food was very nice, with hot and cold choices. I couldn’t work out the waffle maker, so I asked the attendant. She was very nice and somewhat helpful, but didn’t speak any English. The toilet seat was small and slipped while we sat on it. It also wouldn’t stay up when I peed, so I had to hold it with one hand. It was funny hearing my girlfriend’s dad deal with that, though it was a hassle for me.

The room had everything stocked, and the bed was comfortable with fluffy, not flat, pillows. The parking lot was well lit. I’ll stay again when I’m in the area.
