We booked a suite for three adults on a business trip, but at arrival they wanted a $100 cash deposit for incidentals. The man said I could use the ATM, but I don't carry cash or an ATM card. In my opinion, lobby ATMs are there to make money for their owners, which is why they wanted cash instead of letting me use my card. After going back and forth, my son had about $45, which they accepted. They also objected to having our animal in the room and wanted to charge extra. There were no sheets, blankets, or pillows for the sleeper sofa, and the front desk said housekeeping had left and he couldn't access the linens. We went to Walmart to buy a blanket for my son. There were only two towels and no washcloths. That night, when my husband took his service animal out for a potty break, a staff member rudely asked, "yall are checking out tomorrow, right?" They hadn't wanted our service animal there at all. My husband served 21 years in the United States Air Force and has the animal to help with some of his issues. This wasn't a good Best Western experience. We always stay at BW when we travel, but we may have to rethink that.
This was a shameful experience that badly damaged my trust in Best Western. I travel often and stay at their properties around 100 nights a year, so I expected better service and flexibility after years of loyalty. Instead, even with a confirmed reservation and valid ID, I was refused check-in because I didn't have physical cash for the security deposit. I arrived late at night and was told the deposit had to be paid in cash. In 2025, it's ridiculous that a global hotel brand won't accept a card, digital wallet, or virtual payment for this. The policy is completely outdated and shows no understanding of how modern travelers operate. I hope corporate management reviews this location's practices.
The room had plenty of space and the beds were comfortable, but the carpets were dirty and smelled bad, which is why I’m giving it three stars. Before I arrived, the property messaged me saying I had to pay a $100 cash deposit at check-in. The front desk said it was the owner’s rule and even pushed me to get cash from an ATM. I only had a credit card, so I refused.
Our reservation wasn’t showing up, and we never got to stay. While we were trying to check in, the front desk employee was sitting in her car. When we explained the problem, she looked at us like we were stupid instead of asking if we wanted to book a room. My partner got angry, which wasn’t her fault, but she could at least have tried to help or explain what we could do next.
The breakfast was okay, and the Indian guy and African American lady were really friendly and helpful. My experience with the African American guy working nights was the opposite. He was rude and unfriendly the whole time. We had to move twice, first because the room wasn’t clean, then because the next one had no power. The elevator was out too, so I hauled a lot of work equipment up three flights of stairs. There’s a security officer checking people in, and I’ve never had such a rude security guard at a hotel. Having to switch rooms twice was really frustrating. There were also lots of homeless people hanging around behind the hotel. Easily the worst hotel I’ve stayed at, and I won’t be back.
