I stayed for ten days, and the room problems kept piling up. My first room had a musty odor, rotten wood on the windowsill, and a microwave that didn’t work. The front desk clerk said work on it had just been completed. They moved me to a third-floor room beside the trash room, where there was mold on the windowsill. Staff left that trash-room door propped open, and on warm days the smell spread down the hallway because trash wasn’t taken out regularly. A few times, I also smelled cigarette smoke and marijuana coming through the bathroom vent. The shower seemed defective. The water pressure was poor, and a tiny, barely visible stream went over the curtain and sprayed parts of the bathroom. For my whole stay, a smoke alarm chirped on the third floor, which raised fire safety concerns. The property had signs about renovations, but I never saw anyone doing work. An area by the front desk was cordoned off with a plastic tarp, and I never saw or heard anyone there either. I’d probably recommend the Hampton Inn up the road. Its room rates were often better, too. And don’t let a manager talk you into thinking mold is rust. I did see rust on electronics in the rooms, but in every room I entered at this property, I also found what looked consistent with mold.

The pillows and bed were both hard and uncomfortable, and the water was yellow. The hot-water dispenser had black particles in it that weren’t coffee grounds. The whole hotel smelled like weed the entire time, and when I asked the front desk clerk about it, she didn’t seem to care or offer a solution. She was rude, and I could hear her down the hall rambling about her personal relationships going bad. Worst hotel service I’ve ever had. I’ll be requesting a complaint and refund.

I was staying here while going to MDAnderon Cancer Center, and I left before my three weeks were up. The American Cancer Society arranged the stay, and I appreciate their generosity, but the room smelled of mold and mildew as soon as I walked in. I sprayed room disinfectant and wiped things down with Pine-Sol and scented disinfectant several times. Once the fragrance faded, the mold smell came back. When I checked the windows, I saw what looked very clearly like black mold on the sill. I reported it to the manager, who wrote a requisition, but nobody came to remove it. The next day I was told someone would handle it, and still nobody came. I took photos and showed them to the person at the front desk. She texted the manager a photo of the windowsill, and then I was told I could switch rooms. The replacement room had a refrigerator that was rusty on the outside and leaking inside. There was no trim around the bathtub, the linoleum was curled up and looked gross underneath, and neither the sink nor tub had a drain stopper. The first room’s refrigerator and microwave were rusty outside too, and the curtain over the closet looked like someone had thrown up on it. Someone emailed me saying the engineer considered it rust, not mold. I don’t know how to upload photos, but I really want people to see them and judge for themselves. Nobody should be exposed to mold, especially cancer patients. Rust is brown, not black. Amendment, 9/17/25: Wow. Four people know the truth: me, you, the engineer, and most importantly, God. Let your conscience be your guide. Billie W. Harris

There were gnats swarming around my room one night, and I had to buy spray just to get some sleep. The hotel is older, so I understand problems can come up, but they should be dealt with promptly. I was told the hot water was out and would probably be fixed the next day. It never was during my trip, so I had to choose between cold showers and finding somewhere else to shower. Because of how I booked, getting a refund would have been difficult, so I waited it out and found another way to get a hot shower.

I’m from California, and this was my best hotel stay. It was way better than the hotels in California, super quiet, and clean. They’re remodeling, but you wouldn’t know from the noise. 10/10 recommend.
