Hillside Motel

Amanda was great, super cool, and my kids loved her, which says a lot. The property was tidy, quiet, and comfortable. Our room was just right, and the service and coffee were great. We'll definitely be back.

We didn't even go into the room. Based on the outside and our first impressions, we chose not to stay, and that was our decision. We arrived very early and didn't expect to check in right away. The place looked rundown, with a pothole-filled parking lot, stray cats (very cute ones), and a very small, shallow pool, only four feet deep. From the office stoop, we spoke to the owner through a camera. She said it would take an hour, which was totally fine given how early we were, but we had already decided against staying. Seeing the exterior, we couldn't imagine what the rooms were like, and wondered how she could properly clean them if she was the only staff member. I asked my mom what to do, and she offered to call because I have severe social anxiety and wanted to avoid a confrontation. The owner gave her a disgusting attitude, questioned why she was calling for me, and called it 'odd' after Mom explained the anxiety. She first refused a refund, then issued a partial one later that day. I give two stars for that reason. I don't understand the glowing reviews given how different this felt for us, but I never said they were fake. Maybe other guests had better stays, but that doesn't change our experience or how unwelcome we felt. I'm not sure why my mom's call was met with such judgment. Her response felt dismissive and condescending to both of us, whatever she meant by being 'precise.' I appreciate the reply and the partial refund, which is why I didn't give one star, but guests should be able to describe their experiences honestly.

You have to be kidding. We were kicked out before we even saw the room. My husband turned off the road into the EXIT instead of the EXTRANCE, and we all agree on that. A woman in the driveway was talking to guests who were sitting and standing by their rooms. She told us it was the exit. We knew that already. We only wanted to park and check in, but she wouldn't move. She came to the passenger side, and we had much the same conversation through the window as we had through the windshield. She eventually let us pass so my husband could park. I didn't like her 'key-the-car' vibe at all. We went to the office, where we found out the woman from the driveway was the manager. She kicked us out because of my attitude, though I wasn't giving her attitude. I was asking her through the windshield to move aside. It's her property, so she can do what she thinks is necessary. To her credit, she must have reviewed our earlier communication or heard from the guests, because we did get a full refund.

I love this place. It's cute and the price is great, with fresh coffee every morning. Just a few minutes from town. Honestly, it's the best, and I already can't wait to come back.
