The maintenance worker who helped us was kind and useful, but that was the one bright spot in a disappointing stay at The LINE Hotel. The room was shockingly tiny, among the smallest I’ve had, and the quality didn’t come close to what I’d expect from a place marketed as four-star. Nothing felt premium. The bathroom was unpleasant, with an old shower curtain on metal chains. Exposed concrete, brick, and cement made the room feel dingy and unfinished, not like a thoughtful industrial design. The gym also seemed neglected: its full-height windows were visibly dirty, and the fountain’s filter light was flashing red, as if it hadn’t been changed. We paid nearly $1,000 for three nights, and it wasn’t worth it. If I’d known the room would be so small and in such poor condition, I’d have spent a little more for somewhere much nicer. I wouldn’t return or recommend it, especially with so many better choices in Los Angeles.

The staff at LINE LA made our first trip to Los Angeles such a good one. We’d expected people to be rude or indifferent, like in NYC, after years of poor service in big cities. Instead, from the front desk to housekeeping, everyone we met was friendly. After a long day of travel, the front desk man’s big smile and real interest in why we’d come felt like a breath of fresh air. The valet attendants were among the best I’ve met, too. I can’t remember his name, but the young African American man who was always in a suit was quick, courteous, and great at his job. The bartender stayed quick and calm even when the bar was packed and noisy while we had dinner and drinks. KTown had amazing food, and I never felt unsafe at night, which was a big plus in such a large city. My husband and I had a wonderful stay, and we’ll recommend the hotel to friends coming to LA. Thanks again!

The reception space at openaire was pretty, with lots of plants, and the Mexican food at the meeting was delicious. Staff were friendly, too. But I’d call this a decent three-star hotel, not the four-star rating on the listing. My friend was on the third floor and said the old, single-pane windows let in enough traffic noise to wake her several times. The AC fan was loud in our room as well. The rough, unfinished concrete in the hallways and guest rooms wasn’t our style. The bathroom only had one small hook and nowhere to hang a towel. On the plus side, the bath products came in nice, home-size containers, which seemed better than wasteful little bottles.

The second-floor restaurant was a highlight. I had breakfast there every morning, and the food and atmosphere were both great. We were in town for my brother’s wedding, with more than 12 rooms blocked just for my side of the family, and it made for an unforgettable family weekend. My rooms were 1033 and 841, both with incredible views of the Hollywood Sign. The hotel has a fun, modern, energetic feel that’s hard to beat. I’d book a suite next time, but they were sold out when I reserved. Five stars for The LINE LA!

If you sleep heavily and want to be in the middle of everything, the location is nice. The hotel looks beautiful downstairs, but the rooms felt small and a little grimy. There were dusty spiderwebs in the corners, and our blackout curtains didn’t work, which made sleeping tough with the floor-to-ceiling windows. Sound carries, too: we heard the street from the eighth floor and our downstairs neighbors fighting. Book through the hotel instead of Airbnb if you might need a refund.
