Hotel Genevieve part of JdV by Hyatt

The bathroom could use much better lighting. It was really hard to put on makeup in there. Otherwise, I loved the incredible shower, the cute lobby mini mart, and the gorgeous rooftop bar. The design gives the place so much character, and the room felt like my own little studio apartment.

There were a couple of things that left me uneasy, even though I otherwise had a very enjoyable stay and would like to return. I had been granted a 2pm late checkout with my World of Hyatt status, but housekeeping knocked repeatedly between noon and 2 while I was working, despite my do-not-disturb sign. On the fourth knock, a man in a suit leaned over my shoulder, which made me wonder if they suspected me of doing something illegal or just resented my using the perk. I also asked at check-in about street parking because I couldn’t find any signs. The receptionist didn’t know and quickly suggested the $45-per-night valet. A Google search showed parking on Market Street was free after 6pm and all day Sunday. I understand the hotel promotes its valet, but it seemed misleading to suggest I might need to pay when free parking was right outside, and I’d be surprised if the hotel didn’t know. The room itself was gorgeous and comfortable, with a lovely view of downtown from the couch as the sun went down. The mattress was comfy, shower pressure just right, and the luxurious bath products smelled great. The staff I met were friendly. I’d traveled enough to know beauty and comfort don’t always go together, but my top-floor corner room had both. I arrived Saturday around 4:30pm and had found a spot almost in front of the hotel. The location is great.

We found the hotel lively, with live jazz in the evenings and a cover charge, and the rooftop had a lovely view. Our room was comfortable, with a great bed and spacious shower, and the Le Labo bath products were a nice extra. It’s an adorable boutique place, an easy walk from downtown shops and restaurants. We did miss having a mini fridge. PMC handled the valet smoothly and efficiently.

The area is easy to explore on foot, with spectacular restaurants and bars nearby, and the rooftop balcony is a great place to take in the views. We liked the drinks, both alcoholic and free spirits, and the rooftop had a great feel. Getting to the entrance was a little confusing because of construction, but a really nice staff member helped us find our way. After that, our room was fabulous, with a super comfy bed, awesome shower, and plush towels. Absolutely love this hotel’s vibe.
