Tru by Hilton Louisville Airport

We were given a standard room even though we booked an accessible one, and the wheelchair wouldn’t fit, so we couldn’t shower. They did discount the stay because of the mix-up. If you need an accessible room, call to confirm before traveling.

The person setting up breakfast and cleaning this morning was really helpful and nice, and the daytime staff were friendlier than the night clerk, who wasn’t rude but didn’t make us feel especially welcome. Parking was completely full, so after a 14-hour day in 30-degree weather I had to leave the car at another hotel and walk over. The place also felt dingier than a Spark, now that I’ve stayed at one. For the price, that was disappointing. I’m puzzled by the pancake station instead of a waffle iron. I’ve only seen it working at two US locations. A note for Hilton HQ, not this hotel: Tru is the only Hilton brand where I can count on being able to wash my hair. At other Hilton hotels the shampoo or conditioner is often empty or broken, and I’m left with damp, unwashed hair, feeling like I lost time and comfort.

The room TV got stuck in its startup menus with “widget failed” messages, and getting it to work like a normal TV was a struggle. The breakfast TVs had CNN on every screen. People eating kept as far away from them as they could, and I saw plenty of guests walk toward the elevators shaking their heads. Maybe put on Cooking or Golf instead. The rest of the hotel was easy and fine. I might stay again, but I’d bring my own IPAD and skip spending time in the lobby.

The open lobby works as a dining area and game room, and breakfast is complimentary. In the morning it feels cheerful, with people eating, playing pool, or lounging on the couches. They also have a free shuttle to and from the airport. Such a delight, thank you!
