Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott Lubbock Southwest

We emailed the front desk and got no response. I also emailed two days after the visit and heard nothing. It seems others have complained about the same things. The hotel is overpriced, and Marriott should be embarrassed to be associated with these owners at this location. The room was musty, the bed uncomfortable, and the pillows lumpy. The toilet overflowed. The hotel needs a major update. The thermostat is controlled by the hotel and apparently uses a motion sensor. We asked for another room, but it still took five hours to cool down. If you want to sleep well, stay somewhere else. We don’t recommend Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Lubbock Southwest at (6435 50th Street). It’s the worst Marriott we’ve seen. I really wish I could give zero stars.

It was an otherwise fine stay, but they don’t have toothbrushes. Breakfast is supposed to start at 7:00, yet it was already sitting in the warmers before 5:45. The hotel staff didn’t seem to have to wear uniforms. The woman who helped me was in a T-shirt and leggings, with her underwear showing at the back.

The staff were nice and responsive, but I don’t recommend this location. The owners and managers seemed greedy and insensitive, and there are better, cheaper hotels nearby. We booked for security reasons, since we know Lubbock, but were disappointed by what we found. The hotel is at the junction of two busy streets, and on a Tuesday night during Christmas school break the traffic was very noisy. It sounded like the street outside was used as a drag strip late at night. The hotel has no security cameras for the parking lot. The parking signs say Fairfield isn’t responsible for theft or vandalism, and thieves know about the lack of security and can make a quick getaway on either major street. There was also a 30-06 sign on the front door, a legal notice that concealed handguns aren’t allowed in the building. This is Texas, and it’s the only Fairfield in the United States where I’ve seen that kind of sign. Good luck with that. We booked on the condition of earning 2500 Bonus Points through our Rewards Program, but they weren’t given until we called the hotel to have it corrected. Marriott Corporate gives the exact price including taxes, but this location added a surprise parking fee to the bill. They charge for parking while offering no security and disclaiming responsibility. Absolutely ridiculous.

Belle was so kind during my stay. The thermostat in my room uses a motion sensor, so it got pretty warm whenever I went out. She went out of her way to get me a fan, which made it easier to enjoy the room. She really cares about guests. Thanks, Belle!
