The breakfast was absolutely delicious, definitely come down for it! The room was clean and new, with a full-size bed, a comfortable pullout sofa bed, and a well-stocked kitchen. They provided plates, utensils, dish soap, and a sponge. Having a full-size fridge and freezer made it easy to cook and eat in, especially for a longer stay. The bathroom was nice, and the shower was hot with good pressure. My daughter and I had one room, while a close family friend and her daughter had another. Check-in was frustrating because of the price. The online rate looked like about $160, but more than $50 in taxes and fees brought it over $210. I went back and forth with the desk clerk because I didn't understand the difference. My friend was able to book in her name, and I paid. The clerk asked twice to see her email confirmation, apparently doubting that it didn't show the fees he wanted to charge, even though the computer showed it too. It was unnecessary to make her leave her room to prove it.

I had cash and exact change for the allergy medicine I needed from the hotel, but the person on duty said charging it to the room would be easier. Easier for whom? The room was in my friend's name, so that wasn't convenient for me, and I didn't like not being offered the cash option. Next time I'll go to the pharmacy instead of being lazy.

Parents should know about a serious safety concern we experienced at Marriott Residence Inn Charleston/Mount Pleasant. We were there for a softball tournament after it was listed as a recommended hotel on grouphousing.net. While our girls were in the pool, an older man who appeared intoxicated stood by the gate watching them and seemed to record them on his phone. He then approached one of our players and offered to trade a cigarette for her ball. Later, he approached girls from another team and asked if they wanted cigarettes or wanted to pet his dog. The children were upset, and parents were alarmed. Police came and took statements, but the hotel refused to trespass him. We were told he was staying there for several months under a government contract with the naval base, and management let him remain despite several reports from youth teams. From what we saw, this wasn't a safe setting for children. The hotel allowed a man whose behavior seemed predatory to stay on the property, putting his long-term contract ahead of the safety of dozens of kids. If you're booking through grouphousing.net or for a youth tournament, please reconsider. Families shouldn't have to worry about their kids being approached like that at a hotel marketed to sports teams.

For out-of-town work, this is a pretty good place to stay. The rooms are nice, though they vary, and the cleaning service is good. The dishwasher in the last room I stayed in was broken, but I didn't need to use it.
