I expected more from a Marriott property and was really disappointed given the great location. The room felt strange, with no mirror except the small one in the bathroom and a whole wall of odd hooks that seemed to be standing in for a closet. There was no mini fridge or coffee, the amenities felt very cheap, and paint splatter everywhere looked like bad work rather than an intentional finish. There was no breakfast, only one working elevator, and the stairs let you out into an alley instead of inside the hotel. Check-in should have been quick, but took 15 minutes even though nobody else was in the lobby. Parking in Nashville cost $30. This was a one-night visit, and I won’t return. I’ll also check who owns a hotel before booking in future, because this ownership group seems checked out, and I’ll avoid its other properties.

The hotel itself was great, with a good location and a large, comfortable room. But after I ate and had a drink at the bar, I checked my credit card statement and saw several charges for things I hadn’t bought. There were three extra charges, plus another $20 fee that I couldn’t identify. If you stay here, check your card for charges.

Having a room ready before 3 p.m. as a Bonvoy member was much appreciated, and the free luggage lockers were a really nice touch. Those ought to be standard everywhere. The room was small, but it had what I needed without extra clutter. In Hillsboro Village, I wasn't planning to spend much time in it anyway. A couple of little things kept the hotel from being great: the pillows were all too firm for me, and the bathroom nightlight came through the frosted glass and lit up the rest of the room.

James, the maintenance guy, was the one person who was genuinely kind and professional. The rest of the stay was rough. We arrived from NC at 1 a.m. after calling ahead to say we'd be late, but our room keys didn't work. They said they'd get us keys, then forgot until we called the next morning. The parking deck smelled disgusting, and the bar service was ridiculous: people walked past without acknowledging us until we asked, the drinks weren't good, and the staff seemed like they didn't want to be there. There's no breakfast, either. In the room, the remote didn't work properly, the TV shut off by itself while we were watching, and one night we couldn't turn it off. The bathroom was nice but tiny, with hardly any storage. The AC wouldn't go below 68 degrees. First and last time.

When the ice storm knocked out our power this week, we were lucky to find a cancellation at the Moxy close to home. I'd always thought it was a decent place to send visitors, but this stay changed my mind. After checkout I found I had been charged about $75 more than the price they'd quoted, for reasons I still don't know. We had told them we were bringing a dog and had been given an acceptable rate. The room was unbelievably tiny, even smaller than the smallest NYC hotel room you could picture, and felt cheaply put together. There wasn't a bottle of water, continental breakfast, or any useful hotel amenities. It felt overpriced and like price-gouging, dressed up as a hip place to stay. We later moved to the La Quinta Smyrna and had an incredibly excellent experience there.
