Mt Royal Motel

The room was clean and had everything we needed, and the pool was really nice. From the moment we arrived, the place felt welcoming and comfortable. The staff were some of the friendliest, hardest-working people I've met, always smiling and ready to help. Everything was 10/10 for me. I'd definitely return and recommend this motel to anyone looking for a great stay.

The staff were extremely nice, and the beds were so comfortable, with soft pillows and a coffee pot in the room. I loved that there was a broom to sweep up the sand after coming back from the ocean. We got lucky and had a garden tub, which was great for relaxing. Everything was very clean, and the white blankets looked freshly cleaned. I definitely recommend this hotel.

The price was premium, but the motel didn't come close to delivering that kind of value. The rooms were in disrepair and smelled musty. Walls were so thin we could hear every word next door, and quiet hours either weren't enforced or didn't exist. People were allowed to pitch tents and cook in the hallways, and the constant marijuana smell made the stay even less comfortable. Each passing train shook the room violently, which made the location hard to enjoy. Staff interaction was minimal. Parking wasn't assigned, and even reaching basic outlets was a hassle. Some were so loose that I had to slide the mini-fridge out whenever I needed to charge something. Furnishings and maintenance seemed neglected: the pool was green, low on water, and unheated, the ceiling and microwave were visibly gross, and the bed was uncomfortable. I've stayed at plenty of motels while traveling, and this one ranks as the worst.

The location was convenient and parking was decent, but that's the only good I can say about our one-night stay. We paid $400, and the room was nowhere near worth it. The website photos make it look clean and updated, which couldn't be further from what we found. Look at guest photos before booking. The ceilings were warped, the headboards worn, and the doorframes visibly rotted. Floors in both the bedroom and bathroom were grimy, and dirt and several strands of hair were under the covers. A few pillows had visible stains, including what looked like lipstick and Cheeto dust beneath the pillowcases. The pillows were flat and offered no support. We tried to get fresh sheets and blankets, but the front desk was locked for the night and we couldn't find any staff. There was no deadbolt on the door, which felt unsafe, especially with people arguing loudly outside late at night. We won't return, and I'd advise others to stay elsewhere.
