Best Western Plus Midwest Inn

Breakfast was a real highlight, with an unusually large selection: tater tot casserole, biscuits and gravy, two waffle types, hard-boiled and fried eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage. The attendants had made the casserole for the first time that morning, nice to see them adding to the usual choices. The hotel was clean and the beds very comfortable. The pool felt chilly at first but was easy to get used to, and the yellow slide was fast and fun even if it wasn't very long. The hot tub could have been warmer, though it was comfortable enough to sit in for a while. We heard kids in the hallway during the day, which wasn't a big deal, and otherwise it was mostly quiet, with no noise from neighbors. Parking was plentiful and we really enjoyed our stay.

The old, rundown feel starts with the dim 1980s interior and continues outside to a parking lot that needs repairs and updating. Rooms look either toward that lot or the Interstate. Getting onto the interstate is convenient, and several fast-food places and convenience stores are walkable, though the surrounding strip feels lower-end and I wouldn't consider it a good public setting for women alone or families with small children unless they conceal carry.

I'm a Premier Best Western customer, and this was the worst Best Western I've stayed in. The room needed a lot of work, and people were smoking in the hallway. By the first-floor area between the office and elevator, the floor was completely wet from people going between the pool and elevator. I told the clerk on duty about these problems, but nothing was done. Parking was hazardous, and finding a space was a struggle.

This was the most terrible hotel experience I've had. I told the front desk woman before paying the deposit that the girls coming for my daughter's sleepover would be in the room with me. She was turning 6, and I said if that wouldn't be allowed, she could refund the room and I wouldn't pay the deposit. Instead, she took the deposit and gave me five wristbands. The next morning, the same woman, ANNA, said I had too many guests, even though they were children under 6 and I'd already explained. She argued with me and called police in front of the children, insisting the room was booked for one guest. She kept the deposit because the children were in the room, despite my having told her in advance. We left the room better than we found it. Then she told police she hadn't checked me in the day before, even though she was the exact person who did. This place is not kid friendly at all, so don't let the pool with the lily pad fool you. Anna needs to be fired.
