Travelodge by Wyndham Petersburg

There wasn't even a chair in the sparsely furnished room. The floors were bare and cold, the towels were thin, and there was no hot water. The mini fridge didn't work, and breakfast wasn't provided. These were the worst accommodations we've ever had.

The pool looked like it hadn't worked since 1997, and my sheets had a cigarette hole. The whole place smelled of smoke, and there was a guy working all over his truck in the parking lot. The room didn't have the coffee maker, fridge, or iron listed by the hotel. I found spider webs over the bed, beside where the smoke detector had once been, and the visible outlets were painted over or broken. The floors, walls, sink, and tub were all dirty. I used the two towels provided to clean the sink and tub, then had to ask for more towels and toilet paper because they'd left less than half a roll. I've slept in cleaner places in a combat zone. I'll never stay at another Travelodge.

For $55, the lowest price in the area, it was fine for a few hours of rest on my way through. The bed was new and clean, and I saw no signs of bed bugs. I think it's an older hotel being renovated: some parts of the room looked dated, while others seemed brand new. The sign out front says both Red Roof Inn and Travelodge. I booked through Booking.com as a Travelodge reservation, and had no trouble with it once I arrived.

The front desk employee was helpful when I asked about something, but the room was in terrible shape. Breakfast was part of why I chose this hotel, yet none was available. Although I had a reservation, no room had been assigned when I arrived. I can only guess someone was sleeping there after paying cash. The desk employee went to wake them, had the room cleaned, and told me about half an hour later that it was ready. The sink was wet when I got in, so I didn't think the sheets had been changed. I had to sleep fully dressed.
