Hyatt Place Portland Downtown - Old Port Square

Parking is worth knowing about: there’s no free self-parking or free parking anywhere, and valet costs less than the attached self-parking garage at $65. We booked at the last minute, and this hotel became one of our favorites from our whole New England trip. It was our first time in Portland and we didn’t know the city, but downtown turned out to be a fantastic place to stay. Our renovated room had an exceptional view over the downtown harbor area, and it was perfectly placed for shopping. The staff were exceptionally kind and had the poise and service of a five-star hotel. We’d return!

Mid. The staff are nice, and the bed was comfy. The pillows look fluffy until you lie down, then they go flat, like the usual hotel kind. They’re doing construction right now, so the gym is closed and the main elevator is out. There’s only one elevator in use, and they have a limited number of passes for a gym a few blocks away. Also, the room photos online are more like examples of what rooms might look like, so the room you imagine booking may not be what you get.

We walked everywhere we wanted to go in downtown Portland, the location was unbeatable. Our room was clean, the service was great, and we were so glad we stayed here after finding it on Expedia. They were quick and organized with the car, and the valet cost much less than what people pay to use the parking garage for a day. They even gave the kids coloring pages. Breakfast costs a bit extra, but it was one of our favorite hotel breakfasts.

The staff were what made this a five-star stay. They handled every request right away and checked back to make sure everything was set for us. We were upgraded to a spacious corner room with a lovely view, though the bed and pillows were just okay. The location was excellent, near the ferry terminal, good restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and some very cool shopping. The breakfast buffet was solid and complimentary for Hyatt members. We used the airport shuttle both ways, which was a great feature and a nice surprise since we only learned about it a few days before arriving. We were very happy with our visit and would look to stay here again if we return to Portland. Thanks to the staff for a wonderful stay.
