We stayed in both a room and the Victorian apt, and were comfortable in both. The place is FABULOUS, and owners Dusty and Steve are amazing. It feels good to have that personal touch instead of a faceless corporation. Take a little time to sit in the beautifully decorated grand rooms, then explore the neighborhood, where there's plenty within walking distance. The house and grounds are kept to perfection. It's a peaceful, beautiful oasis in the city, and breakfast was superb.
The house is old in the best way, and every room is different. All the little details come together to make it comfortable, and if you're a craftsman, there's plenty to admire. The hosts, Dusty and Steve, welcomed us warmly as soon as we arrived and made us feel like visiting cousins. They were both amazing and accommodating. My father used to say, “Unmet expectations are premeditated resentments.” I've found that true in my life. I wasn't sure what to expect here, but I was very happy with my stay. I'll definitely be back.
Dusty greeted me when I arrived at 1:30AM after I booked at the last minute for a business trip. The owners were very accommodating. The historic rooms were spacious, beautiful, and full of character, and the breakfasts and snacks were delicious. Workers and visitors were friendly and interesting. The internet and office area worked better than at most modern hotels. I've stayed at many Portland hotels, and this was easily my best experience. They made a business trip memorable.
The owners live in the home, which made it feel like visiting someone's house while still giving us privacy and peace and quiet. The breakfast was prepared by their chef and served at a set time, with everyone dining together at the same table. That added to the experience. The beds were comfortable, with care given to the quality of the bedding. During my seven nights at Lion & the Rose B&B, I was convinced of the quality of the stay. This 100+ year old Victorian home is among Portland's finest restorations, and there's a wide range of dining within walking distance. Street parking isn't reserved, but I could always find a spot within a block without much trouble. I'd recommend Lion & the Rose when staying in Portland.
The breakfast is exquisite, with grand dishes and excellent food. Dusty and Steve have spared no detail in restoring this one-of-a-kind Victorian house in historic Portland, Oregon. We've visited four times over ten years, and each trip has been memorable and very pleasant. They've owned, operated, and restored this historical home for over 27 years. Every room's detail and comfort is remarkable, with its own bath, lighting, and tasteful colors that take you back to the Victorian days of the wealthy. The whole house is a masterpiece of attention to detail. The price is steep, but each night and day is a joy for anyone who appreciates this era. Sadly, the house is for sale and the owners will be leaving in September 2019. No one knows what the future holds for this piece of history. Experience it if you feel called to indulge, while the days are limited.
