Fairfield Inn by Marriott Sacramento Cal Expo

The noise alone made this a miserable stay. A train kept me awake for a large part of the night, even with noise-cancelling earbuds, and the staff slammed doors and had poor attitudes. I wouldn't recommend this place at all, especially if you need quiet to sleep. We were in room 321 with my family, and the door barely worked. At first we couldn't get in. It took pushing and pulling with our full bodyweight to open it, and it made a huge noise. That seems like a fire hazard, and I felt bad for the nearby guests. We raised problems with staff, but nothing was done and they didn't seem to care. The listed hot tub didn't work, the pool was covered in bugs, and although we asked several times for towels, nobody brought them, even though it was a quiet Sunday evening. The mini fridge also shuts off after two hours, so anything left inside while you're out won't stay cold. The room smelled musty and unclean unless the AC was running constantly. Despite the new renovations, it still felt dated and banged up. The apple at breakfast had brown gunk on the bottom, and it looked like nobody had rinsed or wiped the fruit. It made me wonder about the rest of the kitchen. I appreciated that breakfast was offered, but that was not reassuring. For over $200 a night, I expected more, especially from a Marriott. The Marriott hotels in Michigan are better quality, but this one in California wasn't. The hotel has high reviews, which honestly shocks me. We won't stay at another Marriott after this.

The location feels tucked away, safe, and convenient. Inside, the renovated room was clean and comfortable, with a large bed, a good ironing board, and a roomy closet to keep things tidy. I also liked the privacy screen on the window, which shows a pretty nature scene. The rates were reasonable, and the front desk staff were professional and friendly. Fantastic Fairfield Inn.

The maps sent us to two other places before we found this one, which got our stay off to a bad start. Then our room keypad died while we were hurrying in and out. The workers didn't seem in much of a rush after we told them, and we wound up late to our event. Getting into the event was difficult too, so maybe we just had terrible luck, but we weren't satisfied. We stayed one night. The room was nice, though it lacked chairs and tables where we could put our belongings.

The first room's HVAC was loud enough that I had to move to get some sleep. In the replacement room, the TV didn't work, though it was fixed the next day. Aside from those issues, things were as expected for a typical Fairfield Inn.
