La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham San Antonio Riverwalk

The location is right on the edge of downtown, with the River Walk and stores within at least half a mile. Rooms were clean, the staff were super helpful and nice, and the bed was excellent and firm. I appreciated that they allow pets, which is cheaper than dog daycare. The shower was hard to get warm. Parking is the wild west, $36 a day, and there’s no guarantee of a spot if you get back late. The pool area smelled horrible for some reason.

The location was great, and breakfast had lots of choices with a big seating area. Our room and bathroom were spacious, and the bed and pillows were comfortable. On 3/4-3/7, we went to the bar during Happy Hour on Friday, but there was no staff member there. After waiting 10 minutes, we asked at the front desk. They said he was out front and would send him over. When he arrived, he was very unfriendly and seemed annoyed that he had to come inside to do his job instead of staying outside talking to someone.

We had a great stay in the King Suite, which was amazing, and the hotel is nicely appointed with the feel of a higher-end place. Breakfast was standard continental fare, with friendly, attentive staff. I’d give the stay five stars. A few small things didn’t take away from it. Parking seems limited if the hotel is full, but we arrived on a quiet night and didn’t use the car during our five-night stay. Room service is normally every third day, though you can ask for it more often. That was fine for me since I don’t need fresh towels daily. They’ll collect trash every day if you leave it outside your door, and they’ll provide bags if needed. I don’t mind handling my own trash. Neither TV would work properly. They turned on, but only the volume worked after that. The front desk didn’t seem to have a real fix, and their suggestion didn’t help. It was a minor annoyance. I wanted to catch up on some Olympic competitions, but I don’t stay at hotels for the TV. If you’re after a good stay at a reasonable price, with easy access to downtown and the riverwalk, I highly recommend it.

The convention center is easy to reach from here, and the staff were friendly and polite. The breakfast buffet had limited choices. My room was quiet and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom had a bathtub, strong water pressure, and plenty of counter space. The AC was awkwardly placed right behind the desk chair, where I spent most of my waking time in the room. Some of the furniture also showed wear.
