Stanyan Park Hotel

We were in a first-floor room facing the main street, and the noise made it hard to sleep well. Double-pane windows would probably fix that. The building is an old Victorian with lots of vintage charm and elegance, and the location is second to none. A few modern basics are missing: no microwave or refrigerator, and no air conditioning. AC isn't really necessary in the city, but it would still be a nice extra.

It's a beautiful hotel in a great location, but I found a toenail clipping in my room and told management, asking them to clean it. After I was out for 10 hours, it still hadn't been cleaned. I worked something out with the manager, but felt lied to when they said they'd cleaned it and hadn't.

The room was nice and clean, though not luxurious, and I had the smallest, cheapest one. It's a very walkable area, great for visiting the park and nearby neighborhood. You can hear people in the hallway, but it's a small hotel and there wasn't much traffic. I slept fine and the noise didn't bother me, though it could be a problem if you're very sensitive or want to sleep late.

We had plenty of room to spread out in the suite, and breakfast was included and decent. I found street parking within a block each night. The location is fantastic: I love this part of the city and being able to cross the street for a run through Golden gate Park. The old building has character, though a few updates wouldn't hurt as long as it keeps that feel. I'd definitely come back.
