USA Hostels San Francisco

We had a great time here as a group. The shared area downstairs works for both games and meals, so it was an easy spot to hang out together. Our room was cozy and the beds were comfortable, and the staff were all kind. I really enjoyed staying at USA hostel.

Being so close to Union Square and only a short walk from BART made the location fantastic. The hostel also has a welcoming feel, with lots of activities and tours, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Bathrooms and showers were consistently kept up, and the facility was clean, though my room smelled a little musty and off. My first night felt odd: I was a 20-year-old woman traveling alone, sharing with three much older men. I’d also been put in a room by the entrance and above the kitchen, so I couldn’t sleep well with all the noise. Staff kindly moved me the next morning, but I’d suggest asking about gender preferences if that matters to you, and requesting a room away from the kitchen and entrance. There was a lot of noise at night. The price was affordable and it’s a fun place with a lovely location and staff. Just don’t head out alone after 2 AM, the streets felt like crackhead central.

The beds were comfortable, and the hostel had a great atmosphere. Some students and other young adults live in permanent housing on the top two floors. The location felt a little sketchy, though I expected that. I found the facilities somewhat limited, with not many showers or toilets. Since I was there outside tourist season, it was manageable.

We felt very welcome and enjoyed our stay. The location is great, the rooms were tidy and generally comfortable, and there’s a basic breakfast. The main downside was the music from the kitchen playing very early in the morning. It was loud enough to carry into the rooms. Still, we had a good time.
