It’s cheap, takes cash, and you can check in at nearly any time, day or night. If you just need shelter from the weather and a place to sleep, it could work. But it’s noisy, the rooms may not be very clean, and there’s usually some graffiti. No fridge or microwave, and the TV only works about half the time. When it does, you probably won’t have a remote. The bathrooms are often occupied by people sleeping there for long stretches, and there’s never toilet paper or seat covers. Still, if you’re not afraid and need somewhere to get out of the rain, it’s a cool option.

Friendly, accommodating workers and a very low price. The rooms are basic, with shared bathrooms, but those are cleaned daily and there are two on each floor, so usually one is free. The main downside is the cable never works, and some rooms don’t have a smart TV for Netflix and similar apps.

I’ve rented here long term, and Andy, who may be the owner or manager, is so kind and helpful. He’s great company too, a witty little thing, and keeps providing exceptional service. The prices are adorable, the atmosphere is great, and the location is in one of the city’s richest, most authentic historic and cultural districts. Tourists clearly seek it out, and I can see why. Solid 10/10. 🤗🤪🥳🎉💯👌🏼👏🏼🙌🏼👍🏼🤝🏼🧖🏻♀️🛀🏻🛌🏻🧘🏻♀️🏨🏢🌉🌁🛣️🌃🧳🥇🎊🎯💸💳🪞🛏️🛋️🚿🛁🧻🧼🪒🪥🆒🚻🛍️🧳👜🎒🧢🕶️🪟

We left with one night still booked and found somewhere else. The final straw came when we returned after our first day in SF and saw that every car in the lot had its windows smashed. Somehow ours was untouched. This was back in 2016, when my brother booked the hotel for our budget trip. The area felt sketchy, especially with a tent city nearby, and parking was a block or two away. The hotel was shabby, and the bathroom was shared by the whole floor. When I went in, there was diarrhea on the toilet seat. Maybe that was just the reality of the living situation and not the hotel's fault. At night we were woken three or four times by people arguing or scuffling in the lobby. I’d call this a really bad place, even for a budget hotel.

We won’t be back after the TV in our last room stopped working and staff didn’t feel like fixing it. The staff are rude and unprofessional, acting like renting you a room is a favor. At least one dresser drawer is missing in each room, and most rooms don’t have mirrors. Don’t pay more than $80. It used to be a decent, clean, reasonably priced option a year ago, but it’s gone downhill since the new staff arrived. The manager or owner calls you family one minute, then screams obscenities at you the next. It’s offensive and out of line. Now it feels like another slum hotel, with disrespectful staff and guests.
