The WiFi was very strong, the room stayed cool even without AC, and the price is hard to beat. I had a clean room, a comfortable bed, a private bath, and a refrigerator. I’m a single man in my 40s and the neighborhood suited me, though it won’t be for everyone and I wouldn’t suggest it for a woman traveling alone. You get what you pay for, but I’d stay again if I needed a bargain place while visiting. I’d have given five stars with more towels. I got one towel and another that wasn’t in good repair. The comforter had a cigarette burn and should be replaced, and the worn sofa didn’t offer much support.

The shared bathroom was clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Still, the neighborhood was rough, with lots of homeless people and drunks. There’s no bathroom in the rooms, and we caught a mouse in ours on the first night. A stay for adventurous couples or people looking for a reality check, perhaps, but not for the faint-hearted. :-)

At $50 a night with no deposit, I’d call it decent value. I’ve paid quite a bit more for less, so you get what you pay for, but don’t expect anything above a one- or two-star place. There aren’t bathrooms in the rooms. Like many cheap SF hotels, it has shared bathrooms on each floor.
