Marty, the owner, was fun to talk to, and coming back to the inn felt a bit like coming home. My partner and I stayed five nights and loved everything. The rooms were cozy and comfortable, somewhere we could really rest and relax. The homemade vegetarian quiche each morning was a highlight, and the hot tub made chilly SF evenings such a joy. I loved the location, too. It was easy to get around, close to Valencia street and its great food and bars, but far enough away that we didn’t get the noise. On past work trips to SF, I stayed in fancy downtown hotels, but they always felt sterile and boring. This inn made me happy to return to my room every evening. I’d definitely recommend it.

The owners upgraded me to a bigger room on the first floor, which I really appreciated. The B & B is in a beautiful Victorian House, conveniently placed in the Mission District. Breakfast included fruit, quiche, breads, cereal, and cold cuts. I’d highly recommend the Inn San Francisco.

The breakfast was lovely every morning, with lots of choices and fresh fruit. We appreciated the 7-11a hours, whether we slept in or left early. The staff were all so friendly, and Marty arranged a late checkout, giving us time for our daughter to nap before the airport. We really enjoyed this beautiful property. Check out the gardens in back and the rooftop view. We came with my mother-in-law, husband, and our 1.5-year-old to celebrate her birthday and do the touristy things. From the inn, we could walk 12 minutes to the BART or four minutes to a bus stop. Both got us to and from the airport or down toward fisherman’s wharf and the pier. Room 22 had a trundle bed and worked perfectly for the four of us. The little tub was great for bath time.

The mansion is lovely, the gardens pretty and relaxing, and the breakfast was fantastic. The Mission location is handy for public transit, restaurants and shops on Valencia, and visiting my son, though the area can feel a bit gritty. But the room disappointed me, especially for $325 a night. The website images were misleading. The bathroom is actually in the room, so when you step out of the tub or shower you’re exposed, with nowhere for soap or shampoo except precariously on the rim. There’s a water closet type of toilet. I’ve lived in Europe, where the bathroom and toilet are often separate, so that’s what I pictured from “water closet toilet.” From bed, you’re looking at the tub and sink. When I raised this at the front desk, they were initially dismissive and said I could leave and find somewhere else. We were there for just three nights and wanted to stay within walking distance of our son, so that wasn’t really an option. Later they emailed to offer a move for the last night or a 15% discount. We were leaving early Monday and sightseeing Sunday, so we didn’t think it was worth coming back early to change rooms. The front desk clerk could use some basic customer service training.

I stayed five days for a work conference and had an incredible time. The staff, rooms, and service were wonderful. The Inn has so much beauty and charm, and Marty and Liza were lovely. I’d definitely recommend The Inn San Francisco to anyone visiting.
