Warfield Hotel

You get what you pay for: the room was adequate, comparable to or better than budget motels. It’s in the city, about a five-minute walk from all the slights, and around 20 minutes on foot from Chinatown and the waterfront. There are very loud people outside, so bring earplugs. Only one employee spoke English, but he was helpful and nice.

The room was large, with a big bed, though the decor looked a little dated. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the location worked really well for shows at The Warfield. This is the Tenderloin, so there are plenty of restaurants but also a lot of homeless people around once night falls. The hotel itself felt safe.

Sam is the best, knowledgeable, kind, and courteous. The staff are all very nice, and the place is super clean. My wife and I go every weekend and wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Best hotel in all of sf, and you can’t beat the price. We love it.

The engagement trip itself was still great, but the hotel was far from the highlight. Our room had no air conditioning, the shower knob came off while I was showering, and there were odd stains on the bedsheets. On two of our three nights, there was a performance at 9 PM with a woman suspended from the roof and running along the side of the building. Nobody gave us a heads-up. I understand they can’t do much about the area or some of the building’s historic features, but they could at least provide clean, put-together rooms and show a bit more consideration for guests.
