Yale Hotel

The noise from the adjacent street kept us from sleeping, and the hotel itself felt badly neglected. There was caked-up dust on the ceiling fan, no AC in the room, and the bedsheets looked like they hadn't been changed since the 70s. The hotel is right in the heart of the Tenderloin district, with drug addicts and needles directly around it. I wouldn't recommend staying here at all. If I could give it negative 5 stars, I would. Take my advice and book somewhere else for a few dollars more.

The room was clean but small, with only basic stuff, and that ceiling fan was a letdown. We paid $ 150 while other places were $225, so the price wasn't bad, especially since we were out most of the time and it got chilly at night. The hotel is gated and secured, which helped us feel safe, even though the neighborhood is Mediocre Bad. I've lived in pretty trashy neighborhood in NY, so I can say that. The front desk guy was helpful and suggested places for my family to visit. We were there for 3 days, and the spots he recommended each day were really amazing. I can't remember his name, but I think he was Indian. If he's still there, ask him for ideas. I think this is a family run Hotel, and the friendliness of the staff earned it 4 stars from me. Parking is the downside. There is NO Parking, and I had to pay everywhere, so I returned my rental and took public transport, which is pretty good compared with NY. Like others said, there are Homeless people around. My advice is to ignore them and keep walking.

The picture is deceptive, the hotel looks nothing like it. My room was small, the bathroom even smaller, and there was no AC or maid service. It's also in an area with alot of homeless people and gets very noisy at night. You have to return the key or they'll charge you $20. Book at your own inconvenience.

The hotel is in a sketchy area, and I wouldn't stay here again. It's cheap, the staff were nice, and it's close to union square, which are the upsides. I thought I'd booked an ensuite, but ended up sharing a communal bathroom. I'd recommend it if you're on a budget and don't mind sharing a restroom.
