Wingate by Wyndham Waynesboro

Our room was clean, spacious and had a decent TV, and the AC worked great. I’d booked a standard king but got upgraded to a king plus, with a table and chairs, an easy chair, a microwave, mini fridge, sink, plus a table and bench where we could store two suitcases. It’s a nice setup for a few days. The walk-in shower was the best part, with lots of pressure and hot water. Bedside plugs and USB ports were a big plus, but only the USB ports worked. I didn’t notice until morning, when my phone hadn’t charged. There was just one bath towel and three hand towels, so I had to go back to the front desk. It was annoying, though they fixed it easily. The ice machine on our floor was out of order, so we went upstairs. The lobby sign said breakfast options were limited, and there were no hot items, but we got coffee, juice and a bagel. The front desk person said the right welcome and thank-you lines, but sounded so robotic and emotionless it felt like a Saturday Night Live skit. The morning staff were super friendly and asked how the stay was. The Keurig had one K-cup and one coffee cup, with no cream or sugar. Maybe I’m nitpicking, but you get what you pay for. For the price I’d stay again, though the annoyances kept it from being four stars for a night’s sleep.

We were after a clean, quiet, well-priced place to sleep before skiing at Wintergreen the next day, and Wingate Waynesboro met and exceeded what we needed. Our double queen room was recently updated, spacious and spiffy clean, including the bathroom, and it was extremely quiet. The front desk staff were pleasant and helpful with dining and evening activity suggestions. Breakfast was adequate, and there was plenty of good coffee. We didn’t use the indoor pool, which isn’t heated and would be better in warmer months. The hot tub wasn’t working, but that didn’t matter to me. Excellent deal, and we look forward to staying again.

The pool was ice cold, definitely not swimable for small kids, and breakfast was a little sad. Everything was eatable, but I wish there’d been a waffle maker instead of toaster waffles. The hotel itself was super clean, even the pullout couch smelled of cleaner. Staff were friendly and the location was amazing. Other than those couple of things, it was amazing!

The location was the best thing about the hotel. The weekend price was a big disappointment for what came with the room and its amenities. We had a king bed and a pullout couch, but didn’t use the couch because there were random long black hairs on the mattress. There were also stains on the cushions and in other parts of the room. I don’t understand how they can advertise tipping folks when the room wasn’t really that clean.
