Quarterdeck Motel

The walk to the boardwalk was great, and we had a really good time. Nick was a great manager, while the staff and other vacationers were all friendly and fun. Everyone seemed to enjoy spending time together, whether they were in the pool or out.

The pool and the boardwalk being so close are the upsides here. It’s an older motel, so the bedding is cheap, the tile floor was dirty, the curtains didn’t shut all the way, and the water pressure was poor. It works if you want a cheap place to sleep in a good location. For a quiet night, though, it’s not a good choice. The walls are thin and people make noise, so I had to keep the AC running as white noise or use earplugs.

The pool was surprisingly clean, but I can’t think of much else positive about this place. There are plenty of other pools around Wildwood. The room had big brown marks across the ceiling, with brown stains running down the walls, and the bathroom was rusty from top to bottom. The window AC had huge gaps around it leading outside. The TV was a flat screen with an odd old-fashioned cable setup and about 10 blurry channels, when the fuses didn’t blow and cut power to half the room. We were glad we only slept there and didn’t spend much time in the room. I’ve never seen anything like it and don’t understand how it hasn’t been condemned. I mean it when I say I’ll never come back. There are plenty of places a block over, so do yourself a favor and book somewhere else. It’s unfair to charge that kind of money for a place like this these days. Somebody needs to come shut it down.

We had a clean, comfortable week here as a family, and the full-size fridge was a nice bonus. The pool was clean, the hot tub was relaxing, and the staff were accommodating. The room wasn’t perfect: there was some sand on the floor, the beds were small, the pillows weren’t great quality, and the bathroom ceiling had some rust. I wasn’t expecting perfection. If you want a Four Seasons, this isn’t it, but for a clean, safe beach motel with a very short walk to the boardwalk, it worked well for us. The price was great too. I’d have paid $500 a night somewhere else if perfection was what I wanted. Thanks to the staff, we’ll definitely be back.
