Kambaku River Lodge

We chose this lodge partly because it’s only about 40 minutes from the airport, and it suited what we wanted. It isn’t the cheapest, but we felt royally looked after and would highly recommend it, especially for a first trip to Africa. Sitting by the Crocodile River, we saw elephants, hippos, impalas and plenty of birds coming down to drink and swim. The food was exceptional, the staff friendly and helpful, and our anniversary honeymoon suite had its own little plunge pool. The game drives were what we expected, and Elvis knew where to find the animals.

The lodge cats were fun, and it was easy to get into Kruger Park from here. We stayed in the Shengwezi family suite, where the staff quickly brought us anything we asked for. Breakfast and dinner were superb, and having them served privately in our room was lovely.

The personal attention from Leanne and her team is a big part of what makes this lodge special. Staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for each guest. We had a great time on the day trips, and Dennis gave us a real feel for African culture. Elvis is the best safari guide there is, and you can see how much he cares about making the experience special. We were lucky to see so much, including elephants and a leopard close to the lodge. The lodge itself feels like home, with a beautiful mix of contemporary style and culture. We fell in love with it on our first visit eight years ago, so we had to come back for our honeymoon. We had a wonderful honeymoon at Kambaku. The river setting made the lodgings spectacular, the food was second to none, and our Kruger tours were fantastic. The whole experience, from the location to the care we received, was absolutely amazing. 10/10, highly recommend!
