I was pretty upset after making and paying for a last-minute booking in December, then being unable to stay because Marshden itself didn't have enough staff. The new owners still chose to refund me even though they weren't obliged to. Thanks, Marc, I appreciate the personal service and think you'll do well in your new venture with this attitude.

Peter the manager gave us a hearty welcome, and the spacious property was nice. We had a three-room family apartment that worked well for us, and the boys played football in the area around the house. The beds were small but comfortable. We had a great omelet in the morning. There is room to improve for four-star accommodation. The pool and the 'gym' weren't functional, and the interior needs some care, with loose door handles. Self-catering was difficult: the equipment was a kettle, a Nespresso machine, some glasses and cups, but no tubs. There should be at least four plates and cutlery. We also had to move the small fridge from beside the bed into the living room because it was too loud at night.

The hotel itself was good, with nice rooms, breakfast and mini golf. It's in the middle of vineyards, so it's easy to find a place with wine. The mini golf was good too. The pool was closed, but who swims in winter? The omelet at breakfast had a bit too much cheese, and the WiFi wasn't really good, though it worked.

We got a warm welcome at Marshden Estate, and the staff were friendly and incredibly helpful. It's a delightful, exceptionally peaceful place, perfect for a leisurely stay. The food was delicious.

We stayed out of season, so it was very quiet. The team and owners were lovely, and the atmosphere and service were great. It's a great base for exploring Stellenbosch and the surrounding area.
