Altstadt Hotel Stadtkrug

The room itself was clean and comfortable, with hot water, radiant heat, wood furniture, and a free-pod coffee station. It felt like the Salzburg room I wanted, though the building is an older heritage property and the rooms aren’t new or modern. Breakfast was basic continental fare, but they could make eggs to order, which was a nice touch. Staff were friendly and helpful. They hadn’t mentioned the free city transit pass, but when we remembered it was provided by the city, they got it for us, and it was very useful. We booked nearly a YEAR ahead for a Comfort Double Room with Breakfast for 3-nights during Krampus Night and Christmas Markets season. We paid €834.58 for all 3 nights, about $970. Later in the year, rooms were sold out around the city and those still available cost double. The hotel is on a main pedestrian-only shopping street, convenient for food, shops, and groceries. It was about a 15/20 minute walk from the train station, 5 minutes to the Mozart museum, and 10 minutes to the old town and Christmas Markets. There was no car noise, but the church bells rang a lot. It was cute the first time, but bring earplugs. It was the most expensive hotel of our trip because of Krampus weekend, but we enjoyed our stay and the location. The hotel advertises as 4-stars, and that felt about right.
