Hotel Lodewijk Van Male

The staff were friendly whenever we saw them, but after 6pm they were hard to find. We arrived later and our keys had been left by reception, which was handy, though it did make me wonder how easily anyone could have taken them. Family members on the first floor also found themselves caught up in the hotel's decorating work during their stay. Parking is plentiful unless there's an event on, when finding a space becomes an extreme sport. The setting is lovely, with beautiful garden views, and Hotel Lodewijk Van Male is a striking building that has real period drama charm. Our room was nice and the shower was particularly good, though an unusual smell lingered. The rooms seemed to each have a different scent, almost like aromatherapy roulette. There was no mini fridge, which made storing milk and food difficult while travelling with a baby. Breakfast covered the basics, but could use some work. The bacon was far too crispy, the eggs seemed a little undercooked, and it took about five minutes to pour a glass from the orange juice dispenser. The ice cubes were a nice idea, but they left the juice tasting more like orange flavoured water. It's a beautiful, characterful hotel with lovely staff and gorgeous surroundings, though a few practical improvements would make the stay smoother. Memorable, including for the unexpected smells.

The staff deserve a special mention. They were so understanding and helpful when our son unexpectedly got his only jacket dirty, and kindly washed and dried it for us right away. We really appreciated their kindness and support. We had a wonderful stay. The room was clean and comfortable, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Highly recommended.

We had lunch here for an event and the turkey was wonderfully soft and tender. The food and service were both lovely. It's a historic place, with a lovely setting out back among the lawns and pond. Very nice.

Parking was super easy and everything was very clean. I really enjoyed staying at Lodewijk van Male. The renovation is beautiful, giving the hotel a fresh feel while keeping its historic character. My room had a great view, and the garden is gorgeous. I was really happy with my stay and couldn't ask for more.
