I probably won’t return to this Sandman, though I usually like staying with them for their high standards and points. The bed was clean and comfortable, and the air conditioner worked great on a hot day. But the older hotel needs care and attention, the sink leaked onto the floor, and the ice machine didn’t work. The front desk woman was difficult to deal with at both check-in and check-out.

The location is good, but the hotel and its rooms feel very dated, with old style decor and carpets, including in the bathroom. The reception area looks old too. The fire doors were labelled to stay closed, yet tied open with string. One side of the hotel looked out onto AW burgers cars food.

The rooms aren’t luxurious, but they’re clean and welcoming, and I always sleep well. The location is fantastic, just a short walk from downtown. Staff are super accommodating and friendly, and have helped with any requests I’ve had. I always stay here when I need to overnight in Smithers, and highly recommend it to anyone visiting.

I believe this may be the first, or original, location. It’s definitely central in Smithers. The front desk was fairly friendly, though the staff seemed tired when I was there a few months ago. My room was upstairs right beside the stairs, so the privacy and noise weren’t great. The decor and the scuffs and other wear need updating.

The friendly woman at the front desk couldn’t make up for waking to blood on our sheets after bedbugs fed on us all night. Now I’m left wondering whether the bedbugs are in everything I brought with me. I canceled my reservation on the way home and booked somewhere else. Honestly, I should have slept in my car. If I could give zero stars, I would.
