The place is basic but spotlessly clean. The showers had strong hot water, and there was a hairdryer in the shower room. Towels cost €2 to hire, and vending machines sell drinks and snacks. For the price, I’d recommend it. Getting here from central Munich took 45 minutes on public transport and cost €5.50, so it’s quite a way out.

The cleaning lady was really nice and helpful, and you can check in early for 20 euros if you need to. Keep hold of your key, though, because losing it costs 50 euros, and after reading this review you probably wouldn’t want another charge. I’d stay again, partly because I’d like to see whether the place is a fixer upper. The reviews made it sound like Faulty Towers, but I found it more like staying at the YMCA. A bit of character never hurt anyone, eh? It wasn’t bad overall, and I wanted to give it some credit. Have a nice stay. Getting around is a downside. It takes about 40 minutes to reach the centre or festival, and there isn’t much nearby. Shops are a 15-minute walk, and there’s a sports bar about 20-25 minutes away. I’d suggest Uber, about 40 euros between four people, or getting on the Voi scooters to the tram, then it’s around 25 minutes. The poverty pastries at Lidl are a must the day after. There are strip clubs within a seven-minute walk, though they look about as legit as most BBC presenters. There’s a small balcony where people seem to keep drinking into the night. Watch the benches, they’re about as sturdy as United’s back five. The bar in the hotel part where you check in is open 24/7, so if 20 Steiners aren’t enough, there are drinks and pretzels waiting in the nicer part of the building. It isn’t really the hostel, but it’s where you check in. The rooms are clean, basic, and fine for a good night’s sleep. How much sleep you get depends on the room. Room 41 worked for us, though it’s near the toilets, so there can be noise. It’s a hostel full of people doing the same thing as you, drinking lots of beer at the festival or just looking for a cheap place to stay. The toilets and showers were clean, but the toilets had a distinct smell, a bit like Tupperware after you’ve cleaned out curry and the stains are still there. On arrival, the toilets smelled like a wrestling match between a skunk and a bag of old nappies. My first impressions matched the bad reviews. There was rubbish scattered outside, and the entrance looked like a building site, with dusty floors and wires hanging through the centre of the building. I’d booked the wrong hostel and then read the reviews, so I was shitting myself, especially as I was in charge of a stag group and had seven others to win over after my mistake. They didn’t let me forget it.

I’d been unsure after seeing the bad reviews, but the hostel turned out pretty decent. It’s a good fit if you only need somewhere for a short stay. The staff were helpful and the bathrooms were clean.

We left in under an hour, without even getting a refund. When we raised safety and security concerns, the staff brushed us off, saying the guests were just having fun and that we shouldn’t interfere. There was drugs and alcohol everywhere. The place looked nothing like the pictures, and I suspect people who rated it above two stars may have felt pressured to do so. This was the worst experience of my life. Please, for your own safety, don’t go there, even if the rooms are free.

We got there Saturday at 15:00 and found a long line at reception. When it was finally our turn, the employee told us our room wasn’t available because of overbooking and that another room first needed to be cleaned. My wife tried the only shared toilet available, but it was filthy and had no toilet paper. We cancelled and slept in the car, which was probably the better option. Stay away from this place!
