Hotel Altmünchen

Sendlinger-Tor-Platz is less than a minute away, which was handy for picking up coffee and something baked in the morning. From there, we could walk to Marienplatz in about 10 minutes, Karlsplatz in 10 and Munich Hbf in 16. Hotel Altmunchen is in a great part of town. Our room was compact but comfortable, with a wide choice of Deutsche channels and three English ones on the TV. It stayed very warm overnight during our mid-December trip. There was no kettle, tea or coffee in the room, so plan to pay for breakfast or find your morning coffee outside. The bathroom looked dated, and a little shower water escaped onto the floor, but it wasn’t a major problem. We had a good stay and would recommend it for the location.

For a reasonable price, you get good bedding, the usual services and a decent-sized room, plus a good-quality traditional Western breakfast. The receptionist was very friendly, too. It’s well placed for seeing Munich on foot.

The beds were really comfortable and everything was clean. I’d give it five stars, except we were given just one key and, as an American, I would have liked free water and coffee, or at least free water. Still, we had a great stay.

Hotel Altmunchen felt welcoming, and it’s close to the old town while still being quiet enough to relax. The staff were friendly and professional. Everything is simple, but well cared for, clean and cozy. Breakfast didn’t have a huge selection, though what was offered was fresh and nicely prepared. They put out small portions of scrambled eggs and top them up as needed, so the eggs don’t sit around getting old. Little details like that showed me they care. I’d recommend staying here when visiting Munich.
