Appart Ambiance - Part Dieu

The staff were friendly, but this felt more like a motel than a hotel, and nowhere near a four-star place. The area was a little sketchy, though not entirely unsafe, and clearly not a nice neighborhood. They advertise AC, but it was set so it couldn't go below 26.5°C. We were sweating and had to open the windows. We also found a pair of women's stockings in the closet. For me, this would be more like a 2- to 2.5-star hotel in the US or Canada. It's not terrible, but I wouldn't stay here as a couple.

The hotel is great and the service is too. One problem in the rooms: there's no door between the bathroom and the beds, so you can see someone showering.

Sadly, this was one of the worst hotel stays I've had. The rooms are poorly designed, there's no room service, and the place is dirty. It feels like nobody cares anymore.

Being near Part-Dieu station made it easy to use the shops there, and we enjoyed the little gym and pool on the first floor. It’s still a way from the old town, though. We’d hoped for a view, since the hotel is tall and many rooms apparently have one. I’d requested a higher floor, but we got an apartment on the first floor. It felt dim and humid, and in the morning we could hear children playing in the kindergarten playground right below us. The place also wasn’t set up for four: the receptionist had to come make the sofa bed ready, with us helping. They offered breakfast the next morning for free, which was a kind gesture. I’d ask specifically for an upper floor when booking. Maybe you’ll have better luck than we did.
