Résidence La Canopée

The price seemed fair and the location was good, but I wouldn’t choose this place again. We stayed in June and the room was very hot. Opening the window was the only way to cool it down, but the room faces a busy, noisy road and it was hard to sleep. The bed was also very small for two people.

It’s like staying in student halls, with tiny parking spaces, but there are easy connections into the city and lots of trams coming and going. No complaints, really. I’d forgotten I’d stayed there, though, so I’m not sure if that’s a good sign or a bad one 🤔

The walk into the city takes around 20 minutes, though the P+R may be more convenient. Street parking is free from 19:00 to 7:00 and expensive outside those hours. The room was clean when we arrived and had a kitchen, but it felt more like a room than an apartment, with a tiny bathroom and kitchen and a small 140 cm bed that barely fits two. It’s very minimal and there’s no air-conditioning, so I imagine summers get stuffy. They had put in a tabletop fan, at least, for some airflow. For the price, the value just isn’t there, and I wouldn’t stay again.

The kitchenette was handy while some restaurants were still closed during the pandemic, and there are supermarkets nearby. It’s a good base for Strasbourg, about a 15 minute walk from the center, with comfortable beds, though the sheets were a bit too warm. Bring your own shower gel, as there isn’t much provided. You can leave your car safely in the underground garage, but the spaces are small, so have someone guide you in. For the price, it’s hard to find a better city trip spot.
