Green Dragon Hotel

I’d had a rough day and made a mistake with my booking on booking.com, so I called feeling stressed. Maddy sorted it out quickly and was calm and understanding throughout. Having my own business and staff, I know how rare patience and empathy can be with the public. Maddy, you’re a real asset to that Hotel. I hope your boss sees this and recognises your care and attention. Thank you.

The big downside is the noise at night. Pubs nearby can get raucous, and at first light the seagulls get going too, so earplugs are a good idea. That’s not something the hotel can control. The place itself is nice, with comfortable rooms and a long, sprawling layout that reflects its history. Both dinner and breakfast were good, as was the service. A good place to stay overall.

The accessible bathroom was very clean and smelled of flowers. The floor and the rest of the space were clean and looked well cared for. There were spare toilet rolls, and the soap and tap worked. I was grateful there was no hand dryer, since paper towels are safer and don’t spread germs the way a dryer does. Staff were friendly and helped with my questions. I needed to use the bathroom because of a disability, and they let me come inside.

Housekeeping were friendly and helpful, and went out of their way to sort out bathroom hygiene issues that seemed to have been left for some time. The first room’s bath enamel was badly worn, and there was a 3 cm burnt hole in the bathroom shaving light shade. We were moved, but the other room had the same obvious hole in its shade, which felt like a fire risk. The TV didn’t work, and the tea, coffee and toiletries were sparse and weren’t replenished daily. There was just one teaspoon. When I asked about it, I was told I could request more. One front of house staff member came across as unfriendly, blunt and close to rude, though everyone else was cheerful and welcoming.
