Wanchai 88 Hotel

The staff were excellent, and the location couldn't be beaten. Our twin room had a good amount of space and felt clean and modern. The hotel itself has a nice contemporary design, and the bathroom came with quality Ritual shampoo, shower gel, and conditioner. I'd definitely stay again. It was better than other hotels in the same price range.

I’ve travelled for 25 years and never had an experience this absurd. The staff also seemed uninterested, and they weren't attentive or friendly. I booked a non-refundable room, then asked right away whether I could check out late because my flight left late at night. They said I had to leave by 11:00, with no exceptions. When I asked about paying for extra time, they wanted 1000 HKD to stay until 16:00, nearly the 1100 HKD I had paid for the night. Charging almost a full night’s price for just five more hours felt like a scam. I asked to cancel immediately, but they refused and pointed to the non-refundable policy, leaving me stuck. They showed no flexibility or professionalism, never explained the policy, and seemed to use the situation to get more money from me. I should probably have asked about late checkout before booking, but I never expected this. You can judge for yourself how ethical it was.

On our final night of a three-night stay, a horrible smell woke us at 4 a.m. The room reeked of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia. We packed quickly, but there was no night manager, and the security guard couldn't help. We had to sit at the hotel entrance and wait for the manager, who arrived three hours later. I got the same response to all my questions and requests: nothing could be done. When I asked to contact the hotel manager, they made excuses and showed no willingness to help. They said no other room was available, so we waited another three hours for one to open up just so we could shower. They reminded us several times that checkout was at 11 a.m. No one offered assistance or compensation. The worst hotel I've ever stayed in.

It's an average place, somewhere in the middle. The location is very convenient, but the sewer water smell on the first floor is awful and the elevator takes a long time to arrive. Without those two problems, I'd rate it higher.
