Intercontinental Grand Stanford Hotel

The complimentary room upgrade and the friendly, well-trained staff gave us high hopes for our three-night stay. The property is also well located and convenient. Then, at about 10 p.m. on our first night, we found a large cockroach in the bathroom and had to call reception to send someone to remove it. It had crawled over some of my sanitary and makeup items. I had to wash most of them thoroughly and throw several away because of hygiene concerns. I found the whole thing extremely distressing. The hotel apologized the next day and offered us breakfast, which was a kind gesture, but we already had plans and turned it down. It did little to ease our discomfort or disappointment. An incident like this should not happen at any hotel, especially one carrying the InterContinental name. We know the building is older, but this was well below an acceptable standard.

The room had some accessibility limitations, which made parts of the stay challenging for my father, who has mobility issues. We had contacted the hotel before our trip, and staff were helpful and proactive about arrangements. When problems came up, they responded and did their best to work around the room's design. The constraints seemed structural and largely outside their control. So I would be cautious about recommending it to someone who needs a fully accessible room. If your needs are manageable, the staff are willing to help make things work, and I would still recommend staying here with that caveat in mind. I enjoyed the first-floor bar, especially as someone who likes whisky. The staff were helpful throughout, and the Kowloon location and wonderful view across to Hong Kong Island were real highlights. It was a comfortable stay overall, with good service, though accessibility needs may affect the experience.

We appreciated the suite upgrade and found our room well appointed, roomy, and comfortable. The Grand Stamford has a lovely traditional character, and its rooms felt larger and more comfortable than those in newer Hong Kong hotels. Everyone greeted us warmly, especially the Club staff. We had dinner at Mistral, where the Italian food was authentic and very well prepared. Service there, like elsewhere in the hotel, was attentive without being stiff. We'd happily return on our next Hong Kong trip.

The room was fine, though parts of the hotel feel dated and old-fashioned. Service was pretty good, especially from the staff who helped with our luggage and loaded it from the vehicles. For us, in our 20s and 30s, the location wasn't ideal. It takes a bit of a walk to reach the red line TST station, which connects to many tourist spots, and even the nearest bus stops weren't especially close. Getting to or from the airport by taxi was convenient, though.
