Krisna House

We stayed five nights and found the staff helpful and quick to respond. Since it’s so central, we walked everywhere, though there’s scooter parking too. Room 12 was huge, with a desk, closet, and balcony looking over the pool. The air conditioner is at the far end from the bed, which could be awkward, but the other rooms seemed smaller. Wi-Fi was strong in the room and by the pool, helped by the booster on our balcony. The hotel has just 12 rooms and feels like a garden hideaway on quieter Jl. Jembawan, away from busy Jl. Raya Ubud. Google Maps puts it a little farther south than it is, so look almost across from Goldies. Breakfast was the usual choice of omelette or pancakes, and the back dining area was a lovely spot for trees and birds. The mostly shaded pool stays on the cool side and has a few loungers. Two extra flatter pillows and a cold water dispenser would be nice.

A good place for a few nights in Ubud. The rooms are roomy, with a balcony or terrace, and breakfast and service were both nice. The garden setting is peaceful and the pool is great, despite the hotel being centrally located. The bathroom is a wet room, which was fine, but poor ventilation left it smelling damp and the towels didn’t dry properly. There also weren’t many power outlets, so charging a device meant giving up the bedside lamp.

Leaving was the hardest part. I spent two months here, in a different room each month, and enjoyed both. The guesthouse is quiet, though Ubud centre is only a couple of kilometres away. The location also puts you close to places I liked: Run Warung for local food, and the more expensive but still affordable Herb Library, which has live music, salsa and bachata gatherings, and traditional Balinese dance. Twin SPA and Ari’s SPA are only tens of metres away. Breakfast by the pool was a lovely start to the day. It came with a big bowl of mixed fruit, tea or coffee, and a choice of pancakes or egg dishes. The guesthouse has its own pool, too. My room was tidy and cleaned every two days, with fresh towels and water bottles. The service team were always welcoming and ready to help. We had a short stay in a deluxe room overlooking the pool, and the balcony view was especially lovely at sunset. The room was spacious and clean, the bed comfortable, the Wi-Fi good, and the air conditioning worked. Krisna house is right in central Ubud, with plenty of nearby restaurants to choose from. The Balinese hospitality was so friendly. I’d happily come back when I’m in the area.
