Kubu Sari Ubud

The gym was a real bright spot. For 40,000 IDR, I could use everything I needed and train as long as I wanted. I also saw how hard the staff were trying, which is why I’m giving four stars, though it was close to three. Our €18 room seemed clean and nice at first. Then we opened the fridge and found mold inside. The bathroom was odd too, with the shower and toilet sharing one space, so the whole area gets wet when you shower. Walking around with wet feet was uncomfortable. A leak from the toilet made noise all night, and I finally turned off the water myself to get some sleep. No one was around when we arrived, and the place initially felt like a ghost town. A young man eventually appeared, checked us in, and carried our bags without hesitation. The pool looked great in the photos, but it didn’t seem clean, so I didn’t feel comfortable swimming. I think Kubu Sari has plenty of potential. I’m sharing what we found to give people an honest idea of what to expect.

For what we paid, we were very happy. We found a good deal through booking.com, so it’s worth checking there. The rooms and bathrooms are a bit dated and could use renovation or a fresh coat of paint. If you expect five-star accommodation, or haven’t travelled much, this might not suit you. It may fall short of what some western tourists expect, though we were fine here. It’s quiet despite being near the center, and we could park our rental bike inside on the right. Housekeeping seemed to come every other day. Towels and loo roll were provided. The staff were all friendly and smiley, and there are two friendly dogs and a cat. The cat meows a lot and loves attention. There’s a main pool plus a smaller one for kids. The rice paddy view is nice, though during tilling it can just look like muddy fields, which didn’t bother us.

A relaxed, artsy place with a great view. It’s not in central Ubud, but the drive there isn’t far. There’s a desk in the room and lots of room to work in the shared areas, so it suited people wanting to get some work done. They also have an upstairs gym for 35k a day. The hot shower was nice. The pool could use more cleaning and care, but otherwise it was all good. Recommended.

I got an upgrade to the best room on the property because I was staying a long time. Having a kitchen and a fantastic view of the rice fields from the office felt like a real blessing. The hospitality was amazing too. I couldn’t even stop them from carrying my very heavy bags upstairs. The facilities are great, especially the pool and on-site gym. It’s just a stone’s throw from central Ubud, so you get a peaceful stay with great eateries and lively culture right nearby.
