The owner seemed a bit pushy and very focused on his Booking.com ratings, which is why I didn't post this there. The apartment is near the Vatican and the Historical Center, and it has a nice style, but the cleaning and attention to detail were lacking. The bathroom smelled strongly of pee, as if it hadn't been cleaned with something like bleach. The kettle was so crusty I couldn't use it for tea, the kitchen hadn't been deep cleaned, and the fridge still had leftovers from previous guests. The sink was crusty too. The bed seemed like the cheapest one he could get at IKEA, and the pillows were just as cheap, thin, and uncomfortable. It was overpriced for the quality, though I guess that's what things cost in Rome these days.

Achille was a welcoming and helpful host. The apartment was stylish, clean, and nicely presented, and we could walk to the Vatican and Ottaviano Metro station. A great place to start our Italian holiday.

The apartment was in the basement, which the listing hadn't mentioned, and its window looked out below the sidewalk. It was extremely stuffy, with oppressive air as soon as you walked in. The landlord denied there was any ventilation problem, even after I complained. The damp was obvious from the walls, and I couldn't sleep there the first night. To get even a few hours' sleep over the next two nights, we had to keep the dehumidifier running and the window open, even though it was 6 degrees Celsius outside.

It was a simple apartment, but it suited me really well and gave me a lovely place to unwind in Rome. The neighborhood felt very safe, and public transport was easy to get to for the attractions I wanted to visit.
