We Love Roma Guesthouse

We spent three nights here, but the stay was disappointing. There was an insect in the bed, which was unpleasant, and the staff weren’t helpful or cooperative when we reported it. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

The central location puts you close to many attractions, and the staff were polite and helpful during my brief interaction with them. They contacted me before arrival to check my estimated check-in time, were there when I arrived, and had the room ready early. When I showed them the stains on the wall, they arranged a refund right away without me having to ask. It only took a few minutes. Still, I left immediately after checking in. I’d seen reviews mentioning bed bugs, though not until after booking through Booking.com, which gives the property an 8.1/10 rating. That seemed misleading beside the Google reviews. The hotel refused my request to cancel before check-in. In the room I didn’t find live bugs, but there were marks on the wall that looked like bed bug stains, so I worried the problem hadn’t been dealt with. The room also needed work: the toilet ran constantly during my half-hour there, the ceiling plaster had visible cracks, the bathroom paint was chipped and its handles were broken. The air conditioning was noisy and seemed to leak, judging by discoloration on the nearby ceiling. I wouldn’t recommend staying unless the bed bug issue has been fully resolved with professional fumigation. General upkeep would also make the rooms feel less neglected.

We stayed three nights at We love Roma Guest House. There are cafes, shops, and restaurants nearby, and it’s well placed for the historic center, Vatican, and a 15-20 minute walk to the center. Our room, 6C, was clean and well equipped, with a large bathroom and a comfortable bed, despite our worries after reading the Google reviews. We were surprised to be asked to pay the tax in cash at check-in, since Booking showed the prices as including everything. The fridge was our main concern: it didn’t work properly and didn’t cool the food at all.

We booked through Booking.com and told them two weeks ahead that our flight arrived at night and we’d check in late. Nobody raised an issue until 24 hours before arrival, when they messaged us on WhatsApp to say late check-in wasn’t possible. We were left with nowhere to go. A woman named Silvia asked us to stay in touch for further instructions, but nobody contacted us on the day. We eventually reached someone by phone, only to be told they couldn’t help and we’d have to wait until the next day to check in. We said that was okay if they refunded the night we’d lost, but they rudely refused. We accepted losing that money because we needed somewhere to stay, and then they still wouldn’t let us check in, even though we’d paid in advance. The staff were rude and the owners unresponsive. Every number on the website was unavailable when we tried it. Booking.com also contacted them for us and was ignored. The booking was a hassle because it had to be paid in advance and was non-refundable. We’d even booked an extra day because we knew we’d arrive late.
