VKS Hotel

The location is very good for the old town. We stayed briefly and had two rooms: the front-facing triple was lovely and spacious, while the standard single was very small and dark, looking onto the wall of the building next door. I didn't think the single room was worth its price. The lobby felt homey, with coffee, tea and a small terrace, and they served nice fresh baguettes at breakfast. There's no lift, so you may need help carrying bags upstairs. Reception was confused by our Booking.com confirmation. The hotel policy apparently meant charging guests an extra USD 9 commission per room, which I'd never heard of. They didn't seem to honor rates confirmed through Booking.com either. Then the credit card charge was miscalculated, with an additional USD 5 on top of the 3% card surcharge. He said he'd refund it in cash but never did. It's a small amount, but it left a bad impression. Maybe the hotel should leave the Booking.com platform. For the price, there may be better options nearby.

There are three floors and no lift. I was given room 306, then told an hour later that I'd be moved to room 104. Nobody came, and I waited all morning. I spotted thousands of ants on the floor. They said I must have eaten something or drunk Coca-Cola, but it only happened once and they cleaned it well. The room was very quiet, the bed more comfortable than my own at home, and the shower had plenty of warm water and good pressure. The management was kind and did their best, and the cleaning was good. Breakfast was poor, though they tried their best. The hotel is good and very well located near the Night Market. I'd choose it again if I came back.

The room and bed were fine, though the bathroom was small and narrow. Having free water every day and a fridge in the room was handy. The night staff man was fabulous, friendly and full of advice. The day staff girl stayed hidden in the office and only came out after the bell was rung repeatedly. It's in a good central location, near good restaurants and cafes, and within walking distance of the night markets.

The room was clean, and the location was great. The street also stays quiet at night. Breakfast was very basic, and the service didn't feel like a high standard, so I wouldn't expect too much there.
