Santa Sophia Hotel

I slept well in my second-floor room at Santa Sophia Hotel. Its window looked onto a back street, so there was no traffic or street noise. The staff were very welcoming and kind, and always happy to help, which made me feel comfortable throughout the stay. The restaurant was a highlight too. There was a wide selection, everything I tried tasted great, and the prices were reasonable. It was handy to have good meals without going far. The hotel is also about a 9-minute walk from the Grand Bazaar and many of Istanbul’s best-known sights, so sightseeing was easy. I’d happily stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Istanbul. Thanks to all the staff for a lovely stay! 🇹🇷❤️

The location made it easy to reach many attractions, and the reception staff were kind and helpful. But the room and bathroom weren’t properly clean. Housekeeping came every day, though they only made the bed and didn’t actually clean. Cleanliness needs work.

The location was good, but there’s a steep uphill stretch nearby that may be difficult for elderly guests or anyone with mobility concerns. The budget room I booked had no window, something I wasn’t told clearly in advance. Since it was already late, I paid extra for another room, but that one was cramped and poorly laid out, with little room to move. Check-in took far too long because the duty manager, Azat, spent time talking instead of getting us through it. During the stay, whenever I passed reception, he kept giving unsolicited advice and asking personal questions that felt intrusive and made me uncomfortable. After a long journey, I just wanted an efficient arrival. The experience was disappointing despite the convenient location, and I wouldn’t recommend the hotel.

Breakfast was excellent, well prepared, and genuinely enjoyable. Azat was very kind and helpful, and his service made breakfast a pleasant part of an otherwise negative stay. The man clearing tables, though, reacted with visible annoyance when my friend asked what the sauces were, made a dismissive face, and walked away without answering. That attitude felt completely inappropriate for a hotel. The room looked straight onto a wall, so paying extra for a “window” didn’t feel worthwhile. The place also seemed far too expensive for its quality and service, easily three times what it was worth. The bathroom was in unacceptable shape when we arrived, with menstrual stains and hair. We asked for it to be cleaned, but housekeeping only removed some of the stains and never properly cleaned it. Azat was also intrusive and spoke so quickly he barely gave us a chance to talk, making it seem like he wasn’t listening. Still, he was helpful and kind despite his anxious, somewhat exasperating manner. The hotel has serious problems with cleanliness, value, and staff attitude. Given the high price, I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
