Leonardo Hotel Edinburgh City

The building's history gives it a fascinating charm. It's a bit older, but it looks nice and was clean inside. We had a great stay, and the location is top notch, just a few minutes' walk from the Royal Mile and other attractions. The breakfast staff were exceptionally friendly, and everyone was lovely to us. There was enough food for a good breakfast, with both hot and cold options. Thanks for the service.

We booked four nights, and it's now our third day. I can't wait to leave. My mam, my one year old daughter and I are sitting in our room because the hotel doesn't feel like somewhere you can relax. The reception is weird, and the place feels like what I'd imagine a hostel to be, just somewhere to lay your head. It wasn't cheap, so we expected more. It's grubby and run down, with really strong air freshener everywhere, which isn't a good sign. Good location, but if you want more than a place to sleep, save your money. The bar atmosphere was uncomfortable and off. We went for dinner just before 5 on a Tuesday, and the barman had a list of food they didn't have. It's very early to be running out. The fish and chips were vile, frozen and sour tasting. I managed one bite and left the rest, but nobody checked if it was okay, even after seeing the full portion. It felt like nobody cared. The food was slapped on a plate and didn't look presentable. My one year old's pizza was vile and frozen too. The breakfast staff are nice, though they grab your glass or crockery and clear it before asking if you're finished. Odd and rude. I found the whole experience strange.

We'd definitely come back. The room was cozy and breakfast was tasty, and the hotel is a historic old hospital, which adds to its charm. The staff were so friendly and answered all our questions kindly and fully. We had a few during our stay and either called down or went to the desk.

The location was fab, and I found the bed comfortable. I also liked that the room wasn't overheated like nearly every city hotel I've visited. I wish the window could be opened. I'll book Leonardo again, and I'm going to do that with the Bristol Leonardo later in Marc.
