We had a spacious, comfortable room in this beautiful Hereford property, just five minutes from the Cathedral and the Mappa Mundi. The bar's cocktails were delicious, and we’d recommend them. The room’s location was a bit of a hassle on Saturday night, though, since it was near a nightclub. I also expected shower gel to be replenished each day during our three-night stay. We kept forgetting to ask reception to refill it. IG: LeSteveDuJour

It was easy to get around from this hotel, with shops, attractions, the river, and the Cathedral all within walking distance. The Cathedral was the most amazing place we’ve ever visited, and entry was free. People there shared lots of interesting information. The Black and White House is small but interesting, too. We found one of the two spaces in the limited parking at the back, then paid £13.60 at the hotel for two nights, which seemed very good. There are other nearby car parks, though I don’t know what they charge. The town-centre hotel has plenty of spots to sit for food or a drink. Our room was nice, though the view was unattractive, facing air conditioning, dirty walls, and a flat roof. If we’d stayed longer, I’d have asked to move. Dinner in the restaurant was enjoyable, and while the menu was limited, there were enough choices. Breakfast offered the usual cereals, toast, pastries, and so on. The cooked breakfast was okay, but the bacon looked like streaky bacon and seemed either old or overcooked. There was just one staff member handling everything at first, so it took a long time to be shown to a table when it got busy. Another person eventually joined them.

Everyone had a good time at our annual Christmas party on 13th December 2025. The entertainment was excellent, and the food was delicious, served piping hot with good portions. Despite the number of people and tables, everyone got the right meal at the same time, with no one left waiting. The service was excellent. I’d definitely recommend it for a Christmas function.

I’ve stayed here about five times, and I’ve had enough of this hotel. Some staff genuinely seem to care and are great, but the service varies a lot. When I mentioned at checkout that I’d had no hot water, for the second stay in a row, the response was, “oh bless you.” Some people seem to care, while others either hide it well or just clock in and out. There has been some money spent on the bar and breakfast restaurant, but the rest of this lovely old hotel feels glum. It looks like they’re trying to copy the classic Hotel Du Vin style cheaply, and painting everything green doesn’t do the trick. The bedrooms just aren’t pleasant places to spend time. The plumbing needs replacing, too. You have to turn on the tap 10 minutes early and hope the hot water eventually comes through. A tap came apart during this visit, and getting a comfortable shower temperature is often trial and error. The heating never seems to work, either. They supplement it with an electric heater that clicks on and off, which isn’t great if you’re a light sleeper. Breakfast is reasonable. They make an effort to be contemporary, but the quality suffers from corners being cut. Days-old pastries aren’t great, and some staff seem to think undercooked poached eggs are acceptable unless you speak up. This hotel would benefit from investment in both time and money.

We paid for two tickets to the New Year's Eve ball, only to arrive and find ourselves at someone else's wedding. We felt incredibly short-changed. Nobody told us beforehand that there'd be nowhere to sit and watch the band, or that we'd be entering a room full of very drunk people. If we'd known, we wouldn't have bothered. Several other guests who'd paid for the NYE party felt the same way and ended up gathering in the corridors and cocktail bar, using whatever seats the wedding party hadn't taken. The whole thing was an utter shambles, Green Dragon Hotel. We’ll be asking for a refund.
