Courtyard Charleston Waterfront by Marriott

The waterfront views were beautiful, especially at sunset, and the pool beside the water was a peaceful place to relax. Our room was clean and spacious. The shuttle to downtown Charleston starts at 7 a.m. and made getting around easy. The historic district is only a short drive away. We also liked the bistro bar’s food, and its staff were polite and helpful. Everyone we encountered was friendly. I’d recommend this for a quiet stay near downtown.

My sister and I spent a week here while our mom had surgery at MUSC, and the free shuttle made a stressful time much easier. It was reliable, and all the drivers were friendly and welcoming. The hotel sits by the water, which made it peaceful to return to each day. The pool looked nice, though it was too cold to swim during our stay. The lobby is spacious, with room to unwind, and the housekeeping team kept it and the rooms clean. We had dinner and drinks at the lobby restaurant. I didn’t get to try breakfast, but dinner was excellent and reasonably priced, which helped over the week. Everyone, from the front desk and restaurant to housekeeping, management, and the shuttle drivers, was welcoming and helpful. I remember Mariah, the assistant manager, from the shuttle. That night she was doing a lot, driving and helping inside between trips. She spoke proudly about the hotel and her staff. I hope I won’t need to stay here for another surgery, but I’d happily come back for any reason. I can’t say how grateful we are.

There’s a free shuttle to the historic district, but that was about the only worthwhile thing that came at no extra cost. Parking is $15 a day, there’s no free breakfast, nowhere to eat within walking distance, and no exercise room or equipment. One elevator was broken, and I couldn’t get a hot shower because the water never got above lukewarm. I’d never stay here again.

The room was clean, parking in the garage was convenient when you could find a space, and the location was great for getting around the city. It was affordable, too. Even so, I probably wouldn’t stay again. I saw much nicer hotels downtown and would choose one of those next time. The AC and toilet barely worked. The AC came on whenever it felt like it, no matter what we tried. We had to hold the toilet handle down or flush several times, and when we arrived it was running until I stopped it with a flush. The bathroom sliding doors wouldn’t close all the way.
