Hotel Louisville

I needed a comfortable room for the night before my doctor’s appointment, and that’s exactly what I got. It was clean and comfortable, and my service dog was no problem at all. Traveling with my dog can be stressful, but the woman at the front desk around 5:30 to 6 PM on January 7th made everything easy. She remembered both our names and greeted us like old friends. When a small room issue came up, she jumped in right away and sorted it out. I wish I’d caught her name, because her kindness made the stay feel special and meant a lot to me.

I volunteered for both Thanksgiving lunch and Christmas dinner, and it’s a great place to spend part of a holiday if your family is like mine. The guests are grateful, and the area feels safe. No kitchen or dining room experience is needed, they’ll show you what to do. A tip: the first lunch shift, before the meal, and especially the second shift during lunch, draw a lot of volunteers, often more than needed, so people can end up standing around. I guess more volunteers want to eat their holiday meal later in the afternoon. Dinner has far fewer volunteers, so there’s more to do and the time passes pretty quickly.

I’ve never felt more embarrassed. I was there to meet a friend, but staff treated me like I was trying to break into the hotel and wouldn’t let me go to his room by myself. My phone had died and I had no charger, so I couldn’t reach him. They made me leave, then called for backup. Someone in a big white pickup cut me off and yelled at me to get off the property in front of about 20 guests. I was angry and mortified.

I stayed five days and had a good experience for the price. The halfway-home residents were like any other hotel guests: leave them alone and they leave you alone. I didn’t see druggies or anyone sketchy, despite complaints I’ve seen about it being a halfway home. The staff were nice and helpful. The lobby smelled a little funky, but that wasn’t a big deal. My room was clean, everything worked, and the king bed was big. The toilet and shower were clean and worked well. Breakfast was cooked fresh to order, and they also had huge donuts to grab.
