The Brumder Mansion really does feel like an authentic haunted house. It’s an old Victorian built around the turn of the century for a wealthy family prominent in Old Milwaukee. It sits on a hill at the corner of Wisconsin Ave and roughly 33rd Street, with a stoic, old-timey presence. The neighborhood isn’t the best, where the Marquette Campus area gives way to a shadier part of the inner city. It was once a more prominent part of Milwaukee, near formal gathering spots like the Rave Eagles Ballroom and elaborate churches where wealthy people lived. The area has deteriorated since, but the mansion is still there, and so are its paranormal events. The host-owners are an older, friendly couple who know a lot about the grounds. You check in during the evening, and they give you a tour. The furniture is antique-old, the decor feels long gone, and there are dozens of scary old portraits. The basement has what they call catacombs, which at one point connected to underground city tunnels. You can also search YouTube for earlier paranormal explorations there. The owners make breakfast in the morning. I stayed in the second most haunted bedroom, and I did experience something strange and hair-raising. I was looking in the mirror when I noticed one of the four chandelier bulbs flickering slowly, dim, bright, dim, bright, over and over. I turned around to see it directly. The way the light moved was delicate and mesmerizing, almost alive in a weird way. It didn’t feel like an evil spirit, for what that’s worth. I’ll leave you with that. Owners were hospitable and accommodating. Happy haunts!

It’s a peaceful, atmospheric mansion with plenty of history. The rooms stayed completely quiet, even on event nights. We couldn’t hear a thing. It made for a lovely romantic getaway, with a clean Jacuzzi and a spacious shower. The homemade breakfast service was excellent. I’d love to stay again.

My mother and I drove almost five hours from Minnesota for my birthday weekend at the mansion, and it was well worth it. The owner, Inn keeper, and their little pups Ellie & Teddy were fantastic. They were personable, friendly, and welcoming, and happy to share stories about the home and other things. It felt like a home away from home. We enjoyed complimentary wine, cookies, and tea, plus delicious breakfasts each morning. They even arranged parking for guests so we didn’t have to park on the street. The mansion was gorgeous, with such rich history. We booked The George Suite, and it didn’t disappoint. The jacuzzi tub was very relaxing. A couple of the gentle resident spirits who still live there visited us too, and the whole stay felt very at ease. Good food and antique shops are just minutes away. We hope to return and meet Julie next time. Thanks so much to everyone for everything. Harley and Jen with Hard Knock Paranormal

Everything is maintained perfectly in this beautiful old building, which has so much history. It sounds clichéd, but you really do feel like you’ve stepped into the past. Tom and Tom are warm hosts and take wonderful care of this historic place. I felt at home, if my home were a beautiful old mansion. Haha.

We stayed in the very spacious George Suite, where the bed was extremely comfortable and we loved the decor. The tour was enjoyable, and Tom explained the mansion’s fascinating background and how everything worked. My wife and I really enjoyed our first stay in this beautiful old home and the Inn Keepers’ warm hospitality. The outstanding breakfast was a lovely part of the visit, as were the tea service, complimentary cookies, wine, and beer. We also got to meet the adorable house pup, Ellie. She’s so sweet and loves being petted and getting belly rubs. We’ll be back for sure!
